Administrative / biographical background

The Northumberland Area Miners Welfare Trust Fund, and the Durham Area Miners Welfare Trust Fund were established to receive the sale proceeds of former welfare provision on charitable application (namely miners' recreation schemes). The establishment of these charities represents the recycling of former welfare provision and following the merger of Northern and Durham areas in terms of Welfare Committees the two charities merged to form the North East Area Miners Welfare Trust Fund.
