Indenture of Sale. (1) Sir Thomas Pope kt., and (2) James Leveson, of Wolverhampton, co. Staffs., esq., By letters patent, 19 December 30 Henry VIII, the King granted to Charles, Duke of Suffolk, reversion of house and site of late Priory of Trentham, co. Staffs. with all houses etc. within the site ; the parsonage of the parish church of Trentham etc., and all lands etc. which by indenture, 21 November 29 Henry VIII, were demised to Richard Trentham, 21 years ; also rent of £48-17-10 reserved to King by same indenture ; also reversion of a cottage in Trentham demised by indenture, 20 July 30 Henry VIII, to Nicholas Townesend, 21 years ; also rent of 18s. p.a. reserved by same indenture ; and also of various messuages etc. in Trentham, demised by several indentures : parcel, rent, 13s. 4d., parcel, rent, 27s. 4d., parcel, rent, 63s., like, 18s., 14s., 25s., 64s., 40s., 26s. 8d., 32s., 26s. 8d., 20s., 14s., 31s. 8d., 32s., 66s. 8d., 52s., £6-13-4 ; also reversion of parish church or chapel of Barlston etc., now held by lease by Thomas Bradwell late Prior of Trentham, for life, 40s. p.a. Duke of Suffolk, by deed, 22 December 30 Henry VIII, in performance of indentures between the Duke and Sir Thomas Pope and Dame Margaret, his wife, 21 December 30 Henry VIII, granted them the same. Now Sir Thomas Pope, for 1,000 marks paid by James Leveson, sale of site of late Priory of Trentham, with all houses etc. within the site, parsonage of Trentham etc., church or chapel of Barleston etc., grange called Walgraunge p. of Leke, co. Staffs., and all lands etc. in Trentham, Blorton, Longton, Toft, Cokenage, Barleston, Hanchurche, Newestede, Chalden, Clayton Gryffyth and Leke, co. Staffs. : lands in New Castell under Lyne ; in fee farm for ever, paying £105 p.a. Seal and signature of James Leveson.
