Description

Indenture of Lease. (1) Thomas, Lord Darcy of Chiche, and (2) John Beaumonde esq., Robert, Abbot of Barmonsey. co. Surr. and the Convent, by indenture with Sir Christofer Garner kt. and Jane, his wife, 3 June 19 Henry VIII, demised to them their manor ofCharleton, co. Kent, with 25 a. wood, except advowson of the church of Charleton, the common fine of the town. a messuage on the east side of the parish church, a close belonging, a croft called Chalke crofte, a close called Parsons hill, with a meadow in the marsh called Seven acres, wood called Hanyngwoodes, 200 a. wood called Smythes grove, 16 a. from Michaelmas next for 34 years, £20 p.a. After death of Sir Christofer, his wife assigned the residue of the lease to Thomas Weldon esq., 29 April 28 Henry VIII. By indenture, 20 March 29 Henry VIII, Robert, Bishop of St. Assaphe and Abbot of Barmondesaye, confirmed the possession of Thomas Weldon esq., then Clerk of the King's Kitchen, adding the messuage in the east part of the parish church, with a close, a croft called Chalke crofte, croft called Parsones hill, with a meadow in the marsh called Seven Acres, with the advowson of the church of Charleton, from Michaelmas last, 24 years, £10 p.a. with extension of both for 46 years from 28 September 1551, at £30 p.a. Leases conveyed by Thomas Weldon to John Beaumonde. Thomas, Lord Darcy, undertakes to pay Dame Joan Garner, during the residue of the first indenture £15 p.a. Signature ans seal of John Beaumont.
