The Scottish Advisory Panel formed in August 1947. Its terms of reference were:
- (i) To advise the British Council on the preparation of material relating to Scotland in connection with literature, publications, films and various other subjects.
- (ii) To advise the British Council of events or activities in Scotland, which may be suitable for portrayal overseas or of interest to overseas persons visiting the United Kingdom.
The secretary of the panel was the representative for Scotland on the British Council's Executive Committee, and the panel met in Scotland twice a year. The panel was later succeeded by the Scottish Advisory Committee.
