Description (What the record is about)

Lord Shaftesbury's "Virtuoso Copy Book" containing: A letter concerning the Art or Science of Design, written from Italy (on the occasion of some Designs in Painting), to my Lord * * * * in MS., printed in Vol. III of the Characteristics. A Notion of the Historical Draft or Tablature of the Judgment, of Hercules, according to Prodicus. In MS., as printed in Vol. III of the Characteristics. Instructions for Mr. D y on the two pieces preceding, viz: - Letter and Notion on Hercules, &c. N.B. These instructions are continued at the other end of this MS. volume, and in the "Silk pouch" of the same are 13 beautiful engravings by Sim. Gribelin, illustrative of Lord Shaftesbury's works, who has written on the cover enclosing them. "The III Vol. plates of Mr. Grib. Recd. Dec. 26, 1712."
