`A Relation of the state of France' by Sir George Carew, written on his return from his Embassy there in 1609. A copy, lacking the title and dedication and part of the last paragraph. Printed in `An Historical View of the Negotiations between the Courts of England, France and Brussels 1592 to 1617 ... with A Relation of the State of France by Sir George Carew' by Thomas Birch (London 1749) from Brit. Mus. Add. MSS. 35,846.A Latin safe-conduct for Patrick Gordon, English agent in Poland temp. James I, is written on one of the blank pages at the beginning. Leather-bound vol. of 154 numbered ff. (4 missing), two thirds blank.
