Two railway maps. (1) 'Plan and Section of the Proposed Chester & Crewe Railway, 1836': showing the line from the junction with Grand Junction Railway at Crewe to Chester. (2) 'Plan of the Proposed Chester & Birkenhead Railway, 1836': showing the entire length of the proposed line; also showing parishes and roads. Both items to scale: 2 inches to 1 mile [1:31,680] (horizontal); 1 inch to 160 feet [1:1,920] (vertical). Compass indicators. Both items by George Stephenson, Engineer, Murray Gladstone, Assistant Engineer; (1) surveyed by John Pallin, (2) surveyed by J Bennison; both items 'drawn on the stone' by C F Cheffins, 9 Southampton Buildings, Holborn. Item (1) is inscribed on the dorse: 'C and C Railway'; signed by H Kelsall. A letter from J Morris, Great Western Railway Secretary's Office to Sir Felix Pole, [General Manager of the Great Western Railway], 21 June 1927, is affixed to item (1).
