Description

Second volume of appendices to the report of the Commission of Enquiry into Treatment of Immigrants in British Guiana, 1870-71. Includes information concerning: hospitals, dwellings, water supply, cattle, gardens, schools, buildings, wages and estates, labour statistics, desertions, imprisonments and deaths, and return immigrants at the estates of British Guiana, as well as further notes and complaints about the estates. Estates dealt with include:

  • those at Demerara [parts 1 and 4] (Great Diamond, Cumings Lodge, La Hague, Peters Hall, Ruimveldt, Better Hope, Bel Air, Wales, Belle Vue, Providence, Zeeleight, De Kinderen, Philadelphia, Leonora, Schoon Ord, Vriesland, Emmore, Windsor Forest, Gordverwagting, RomE and Houston, Cove and John);
  • those at Essequibo [part 2] (Golden Fleece, Lorg, Johanna Cecelia, Hamberg, L'Union, Cullen, Spring Garden, Aurora, Anna Regina, Land of Plenty, Columbia, Belle Plaine, Zeelandia, Hampton Court, Windsor Castle, Coffee Grove);
  • those at Berbice [part 3] (Goldstone Hall, Adelphi, Port Mourant, Eliza and Mary, Sheldon, Albion, Mara, Ma Retriate, Smithsons Place, Canefield, Hope and Experiment, Bath, Cotton Tree).
