Description

Letters from 'offices' (Government departments and other organisations) and individuals on matters relating to British Guiana. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

  • Admiralty (Suradannine timber for ship building, passages for W McNulty, George P Wells, Reverend A Murray, Reverend A Matthews, Reverend A D Murray and Edward Read);
  • Crown Agents (supply of silver coins);
  • Privy Council Office (confirmation of Demerara Railway Company Ordinance, confirmation of further ordinance relating to the Railway Company, continuation of privileges granted to the Combined Court);
  • Foreign Office (boats seized by escaped convicts [forwarding letter in French], Mr Metman's mission regarding law reform in the Dutch colonies and his probable visit to Demerara [forwarding letter in French], French request for surrender of escaped convicts not covered by extradition convention, possible local arrangement for surrender of escaped convicts [two letters, in English and French], appointment of Thomas C Jenkins as United States consul [two letters], claim of Portuguese consul to the right to administer Portuguese intestate estates [two letters], disposal of boats seized by convicts from Cayenne [two letters], draft ordinance on subject of convicts from Cayenne, mutual surrender of convicts from Cayenne, extradition treaties of 1844 and 1860, Netherlands request to examine Surinam records from 1804-1816, exemption of Portuguese from service in Fire Brigade [three letters], draft French Convict Extradition Ordinance);
