Rolled files of records of nisi prius.
These records are regularly accompanied by writs of distringas juratorum and jury panels. Some of them have been made up into posteas: that is to say that they have been endorsed with what purports to be the return of the judge before whom the cause was tried, stating the day of the trial, the name of the presiding judge, the appearance of the parties by their attorneys, the summons of the jury and the findings of the jury together with their assessment of damages and costs. None of the cases carry any annotation.
One of the rolls has been tentatively listed as a judgment roll. Another one is an issue roll for assizes cases in 1737, demonstrating just how closely the process in a criminal trial could mimic that of a civil one.
It also contains a bundle of indictments, some incomplete, and writs. The bundle includes blank judges' certificates for the payment of parliamentary rewards.
