Description

Statements made by the former owners of The Proceedings and Correspondence upon the Subject of the Inquiry into the Conduct of Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales (otherwise The Delicate Investigation) that they have sold their copies for the named price to Mr H C Litchfield [the Treasury Solicitor] and have no knowledge of any other copies or extracts there from 14 documents; the Treasury Solicitor was evidently entitled to buy copies when found and to pay for them sums ranging from ú100 to ú1000; Persons so described with dates of swearing are:

Peter Smart, printer and publisher of the Daily Advertiser Oracle and True Briton, 11 March 1809 (with copy).

William Lindsell, bookseller of Wimpole Street, 11 March 1809.

Walter Wilson and Alix Maxwell, 13 May 1809.

William Huntley [or Hartley], 4 May 1809.

John Flinn of 16 Charles Street, Covent Garden, 4 May 1809.

Jane Beale, 9 May 1809.

John Wilson of 13 Chapel Street, Bedford Row, 7 July 1809.

Mary Paton, 7 January 1810.

J Hamilton on behalf of another, 37 Paternoster Road, 5 June 1811.

John Thomas of 18 Brompton Row, Knightsbridge. His receipt for ú100 signed X, 7 June 1811

John Turnbull of 177 Strand to Litchfield, 12 July 1811, enclosing a printed handbill advertising the book and stating that he is willing to sell his copy.
