Description

Memoranda of presentations to the church of Eccleston (Lancashire) by the [alien] prior and convent of St. Mary, Lancaster, taken from the registers of successive bishops of Coventry and Lichfield between the episcopates of Walter Langton (1296-1321) and John Hales (1459-90)

  • 6 March 1310 - Master Ralph de Tunstall;
  • 22 October 1319 - Sir Richard de Womberegh';
  • 22 July 1319 - Nicholas de Shepey;
  • 28 May 1321 - John de Ellerker, upon the resignation of Nicholas de Shepey, who had exchanged the living for that of Rolleston.
  • 2 July 1322 - John Travers, priest, upon the resignation of John de Ellerker, who had exchanged the living for that of Broughton Astley (Leicestershire) in the diocese of Lincoln;
  • 31 December 1329 - Peter Egidius, priest, upon the death of John Travers;
  • 8 October 1337 - Henry de Haydok, upon the death of Peter Egidius, at the presentation of King Edward III by reason of the temporalities of the abbey of St. Martin of Sées in Normandy being in his hand.
  • 13 December 1369 - William de Hexham, clerk, at the presentaton of Edward III by reason of the alien priory of Lancaster being in his hand due to the war between the king and his French adversaries.
  • 4 June 1401 - Sir Roger Tydyman', priest, upon the death of Thomas de Langton, last rector;
  • 19 May 1404 - John Toralby, clerk, at the presentation of King Henry IV;
  • 23 April 1408 - George Radclyf, clerk, by the free resignation of John Toralby and at the presentation of King Henry IV.
  • 22 June 1430 - Sir John Mapilton', priest, upon the death of William Radclyff, last rector;
  • 20 August 1430 - Sir Hugh Huyton', upon the resignation of Sir John Mapilton', who had exchanged the living of Corston (Somerset) in the diocese of Bath and Wells, at the presentation of King Henry VI.
  • 24 April 1463 - Sir Edward Mascy, priest, upon the free resignation of Sir Hugh Huyton', at the presentation of Sir Thomas Stanley, knight, Lord Stanley. John Hales, bishop of Coventry and Lichfield, ordered Master Roger Asser to inquire into the right to present. He certified that the right belonged to Lord Stanley in right of his lordship of Hawarden (Flintshire).
