Description

Extracts of institutions to the parish church of Beeston (Norfolk) in the bishopric of Norwich. [Endorsed. Draft inspeximus of appointment to the stewardship of the castle, lordship and rape of Pevensey (Sussex).]

Institutions:

  • Time of Henry Spencer, bishop of Norwich: 31 July 1404, institution of John Braye, clerk; presented by Thomas earl of Arundel and Surrey;
  • Time of John Wakeringe, bishop of Norwich: 19 May 1419, institution of Master John Urry, priest, in the place of Robert Growte, clerk, his proctor, by the death of John Braye; presented by William William, John Parsons and John Burnell, attornies of John earl of Arundel and Lord Maltravers;
  • Time of William Alnewik, bishop of Norwich: 10 October 1434, institution of John Trumpyngton, priest, in the person of John Garden, priest, rector of the parish church of Barne in the diocese of Chichester, his proctor, by the death of Master John Urry, the last rector; presented by John earl of Arundel and Lord Maltravers;
  • Time of Walter Lyhert, bishop of Norwich: 3 May 1451, at Thorp by Norwich, institution of Robert Trewlove, priest, by the resignation of Master William Halle LLB, the last rector, through an exchange of the parish church of Little Wilbraham (Wilburham Parva) in the diocese of Ely; presented by William earl of Arundel and Lord Maltravers;
  • Time of Walter Lyhert, bishop of Norwich: 22 August 1458, at the episcopal palace, institution of Master John Cokefeld DD, by the death of Robert Trewlove, the last rector; presented by William earl of Arundel and Lord Maltravers.

[Endorsed. Draft inspeximus and confirmation by Edward IV of the letters patent of Elizabeth [Woodville], his wife, dated [?] February, 17 Edward IV [1478], appointing Richard Fenys, knight, Lord Dacre, her chamberlain, and John Fenys, knight, as stewards of the castle, lordship and rape of Pevensey and the honour of Laigle (Sussex), parcel of the duchy of Lancaster, for the life of the queen, and then after her death.]
