Description

Petition of John Forde, tenant of Sidmouth (Devon), to the council of the abbess of Syon (Middlesex), complaining of the actions against him of Harry Whyker causing financial and bodily injuries, and of the violent attack upon him on St Mark's day last [25 April] by Whyker, Robert Roud, Richard Seward and John Gould, followed by Whyker citing him to appear before the Court of Arches on the next Wednesday. On 7 August last, Robert Roudell accosted Forde while he was returning from his brother's house in Raddiche Lane in ?D[art]mouth, beat him up, breaking his arm in two places and dragging him to the king's gaol in Exeter. Forde's petition is vouched for by Richard Buller, priest, Edward Slade, John Callye, Robert Drake, John Martyn, Nicholas Lang, John White, William [ms torn], Richard Yonge, William Chanoun, John Chanoun apon the Hille, John Chanoun in the Weste towne, John Jogeler, John Coper, Robert Cristofer, Richard [ms torn], John Cheke, Robert Clerke, William Knyzght, John Robyns, John Eastone of Bekewell', John Vyncent, William Harris, William [ms torn], Thomas Gally, Thomas Baston', John Chanoun of Gulverton, Philip Hore, Andrew Drever the elder, Andrew Drever the younger, William Stocker, Richard [ms torn], John Pomeray, John Edmond, William Vyncent and divers others of the homage of Sidmouth and Otterton (Devon).
