Documents concerning the dispute as to the right of election of a prior of the cathedral priory of Winchester (Hampshire).
Letters patent of Nicholas [of Ely], bishop of Winchester, and John [de Dureville or d'Urevilla], prior of St. Swithun's cathedral priory, Winchester, and the convent, reciting their mutual positions regarding the election of a prior and attesting, therefore, to the election of William of Southampton, prior provincial of the Friars Preacher in England, and Antony Bek, archdeacon of Durham, to arbitrate in this dispute, under penalty of £10000, and their submission to the spiritual coercion of the archbishop of Canterbury on penalty of excommunication and forfeiture of temporalities to the king.
