Description

Transcript of ten bulls to the Minoresses, without Aldgate, London, drafted by John Wallensis, clerk of the diocese of Lincoln, public notary.

  • Papal licence to appropriate a suitable church to the value of 40 marks when it shall become available, as per the request of Edmund, earl of Lancaster, and Blanche, queen of Navarre, his wife, founders;
  • Bull of Pope Boniface [VIII] to Master John de Lacy, chancellor of Chichester, Bertuldus de Labro, canon of Chartres and Giffredus de Vezano, canon of Cambrai, clerk of the papal chamber, responding to the petition of the abbess and convent that, having appropriated the church of Hartington (Derbyshire) within the diocese of Coventry and Lichfield, [Walter Langton] the bishop of Coventry & Lichfield and the officials of the diocese greatly disturb and challenge them for they say this church is worth more than 40 marks, the Pope allowing them to receive issues and profits up to 60 marks [3 March 1298, 2 versions];
  • Bull of Pope Boniface [VIII] granting to the abbesses and convents of the Minorite Order freedom from paying tithes from any possessions and goods [Anagni, 1 June 1296];
  • Bull of Pope Boniface [VIII] to the abbess and sisters, both present and future, taking the abbey into papal protection and granting them the rule followed in the abbey of St. Cloud (Sanctus Clodoaldus) (diocese of Paris, France), as well as the right to retain lands and possessions granted, or to be granted to them, along with the site of the monastery. Further privileges are granted relating to the receipt of those wishing to enter religion, consecration of the altar and other sacraments [Given in Rome by the hand of Petrus Valerianus, cardinal-deacon of St. Maria Nova and vice-chancellor of the Roman church, 15 March 1296];
  • Bull of Pope Boniface [VIII] to the abbess and sisters granting them their monastery, with rights to build, for one pound of wax annually [Anagni, 31 August 1295, 2 copies];
  • Bull of Pope Boniface [VIII] to the abbess and sisters granting them, in response to their petition, the same privileges and indulgences previously granted by his predecessors but not used [Anagni, 13 September 1295];
  • Bull of Pope Clement V to the abbess and sisters receiving them, their possessions and goods into his protection in response to their petition, and confirming them in their possessions [Avignon, 15 June 1309];
  • Bull of Pope John XXII granting to the abbesses and convents of the Minorite Order freedom from paying tithes from any possessions and goods, confirming the grant of Boniface VIII [Avignon, 17 September 1317].
