Decree by R[alph de Neville] dean of Lichfield, N. the precentor and Master Thomas Foliot, canon of Lichfield, in pursuance of a bull of Innocent III asking them to settle a dispute between Farewell priory (Staffordshire) and Langley priory (Leicestershire), in which the prioress and nuns of Farewell have complained that the prioress and nuns of Langley have withdrawn from their rightful subjection.
During a vacancy in the priory of Langley, the prioress of Farewell and nuns of the convent of Langley elected a new prioress. This new prioress retained in her house Alice de Ely, a nun of Farewell, for five years from the Purification of the Virgin immediately after the consecration of Hugh of Wells as bishop of Lincoln from archdeacon of Wells [1209], at which point Alice returned to Farewell. Both houses agreed that from henceforth nuns of either house would be permitted to stay with the other for set periods.
