Proceedings in the Roman Curia as to the complaints of the prelates of France against both orders of friars, Dominicans and Franciscans.
Proposal of various articles concerning suppression of some of the activities of the friars in France in order to bolster the priesthood, particularly at parish level, against the challenge from the friars. Articles specifically aimed to: inhibit absolution by friars in cases reserved to bishops, particularly those crimes such as incest, murder, sacrilege, breaking of vows, blasphemy, sodomy, arson and adultery, and friars hearing confession in such cases, as outlined in the summae of Dom. N., Brother Raymond and Bonaventure and many others and codified by Pope Clement [IV] in his constitutions 'Quidam temere sentientes' (1265), by the bull of Pope Martin IV 'Ad fructus uberes' (1281), by the bull of Pope Innocent IV 'Et si animarum' (1252), and by the bull of Pope Nicholas [III] 'Exiit qui seminat' (1279); reassert sacerdotal authority over preaching, execution of testaments, hearing confession and burying the dead; challenge the power of the prior of Paris to hold inquisitions. [Includes a trasncript of the bulls 'Et si animarum' and 'Quidam temere sentientes'].
