The volumes show surname, Christian name, [forename], year of birth, place of birth, discharge 'A' number - infrequently quoted, certificate number and occasional remarks. The indexes are split over two volumes the first covering Surnames with the initial letter A to L and the second M to Z.
The actual Registers of Cooks' Certificates of Competency and Service, are held at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich.
