This series contains case files of the Tariff Division and the Tariff and Import Policy Division of the Board of Trade, and of the Tariff Division of the Department of Trade and Industry.
The files relate to the application of trade and import policy to particular instances, for example, the relief from import duty and purchase tax (where applicable) on imported articles under various provisions of the Import Duties Act 1958 and the Finance Act 1960. These provisions had as their purpose, among other things, the promotion of UK exports and of scientific research in the UK.
