Lundy Island, Devon: Births.
(Some correspondence dated 1869-1870 is inserted in the register (between pages 4-11), but the letter-book referred to in an inscription on page 3 no longer exists).
Under the Act of Parliament regulating civil registration in England and Wales (6 & 7 Wm IV c 86) no provision was made for the registration of births and deaths on Lundy Island. The birth register and the one entry concerning Lundy Island contained in the death register held in RG 35/20 are thus excluded from copies of the statutory registers held in the General Register Office. In 1870, the Registrar General accepted the offer from a private individual to undertake the registration of these events and provided the registers. For the purposes of the Census, Lundy Island was included in the Bideford Registration District and and stated to be 'extra-parochial'.
