Transcripts and copies of evidences of title would, presumably, have been drawn up and used by the Duchy office in the day to day administration of the Duchy and in order to protect its claims and rights. They relate, therefore, to the Lancaster inheritance and to those inheritances that fell into it prior to 1399: those of the De Ferres, De Lacy, De Warenne and De Bohun families.
