This series relates to a broad range of subjects including export promotion, foreign exchange, the Industrial Development Act 1966, investment grants, the Overseas Marketing Corporation, overseas trade, the Queen's Award to Industry, proposed sites for a National Exhibition Centre, and trade fairs. It includes Information Division files.
Background information, including office and local notices, regarding the changing composition and functions of the General Division is also contained in this series.
This series contains files from the GD file series which were registered between 1957 and 1968 in the policy, general and records (P, G & R) series of the General Division, successor to the Commodity and General Division. The GD prefix was also used by the Information Division until the end of 1964 when they began to use their own ID file series.
In 1968 the nomenclature of the Board of Trade's divisions was changed and the GD prefix discontinued and was replaced by Economic (General) 1 (G1), Export Policy and Promotion (XP) and Investment Grants (IG) series.
