Sketch map shows Wanganui and Waitotara rivers, tributary streams, terrain, vegetation, Wanganui town, British and Maori settlements, British and Maori military positions, roads. Scale: 1 inch to 1 mile. Compass indicator. By H C Field, Surveyor, Wanganui. Signed by Lieutenant Colonel D J Gamble, Deputy Quarter Master General, New Zealand. Lithographed at the Topographical Depot of the War Office, under the Superintendence of Lieutenant Colonel A C Cooke, Royal Engineers, Colonel Sir Henry James, Royal Engineers, FRS, Director, 1865. Inked annotation in the upper right margin reads: 'Model for Coloring JGK'. Formerly in the War Office map library, under reference: 'Oceania B 12C'.
