Map of land lying between Waikato River and Waikare Lake, showing terrain (river, lake, swamp partly dry in summer, hills); Maori church, whares; British lines and redoubts, Maori lines, rifle pits; British gun boats, steamers Pioneer and Avon, on Waikato River. Key to sites identified on the map. Scale: 12 inches to 1 mile. Compass indicator. Panoramic sketch in upper right corner: 'Central Redoubt (BB) Looking North East', with Lake Waikara and hills in background. Signed by Lieutenant Colonel D J Gamble, Deputy Quarter Master General, New Zealand. Lithographed and printed at the Topographical Department, War Office, under the direction of Major A C Cooke, Royal Engineers, Colonel Sir H James, Royal Engineers, FRS, MRIA, Director, 1864.
