Map of area between 37° S and 38° 10' S and between 174° 30' E and 175° 35' E showing terrain (hills, rivers, lakes, swamps), vegetation; towns, harbours, British and Maori fortified positions, military roads; Mr Reid's mission station. Scale: 1 inch to 2 miles. Inset: 'North Island of New Zealand'. Printed note reads: 'Note. The principal Authorities for this Map are the Admiralty Charts, Sketches by Coll [Colonel] Gamble D.Q.M.G. and other documents procured from the Colony'. Printed note concerning navigational hazards on the Waikato River. Lithographed and printed at the Topographical Department, War Office, under the Direction of Major A C Cooke, Royal Engineers, Colonel Sir H James, Royal Engineers, FRS, MRIA, Director, 1864. Formerly in the War Office map library, under reference: 'Oceania. (New Zealand.) Battles, Sieges and Warlike Operations. 8'. Dimensions: 77 cm x 89.5 cm, sheet dissected into four, part of a fifth sheet (24 cm x 44 cm) affixed to lower right sheet.
