New Zealand: 'Sketch of the Maori Position at Merimeri on the Right Bank of the Waikato River'. Map showing terrain (river, swamp lands, hills), fortified positions and inter-connecting pathways; rifle pits (shown in red). Scale: 1 foot to 1 mile; scale bar also in yards. Compass indicator. Signed by Lieutenant Colonel D J Gamble, DQMG, New Zealand and Captain G R Graves, DAQMG. Stamped in the Intelligence Division, War Office, Map Room (manuscript references obliterated). Embossed with the Royal arms. Large, bold '16' on label affixed to upper, right corner. Pin holes at corners. Formerly in the War Office map library, under reference 'Oceania (New Zealand). Battles, Sieges and Warlike Operations. 4'. Annotated: '24/3/64 Traced from a plan in the Qr Mr Genls [Quarter Matser General's] Department'. This sketch map is stated to be a tracing of the original, which was then in the Quartermaster General's Department, Horse Guards, London. That original map has not been identified. The original of Gamble's report is in WO 30/126. Annotated: 'Forwarded with Report and Journal of Operations - November 5th 1863'.
