16 separate sheets of the Ordnance Survey 1:2500 County Series, comprising maps of parts of the Essex coast. (i) One sheet, in the environs of Walton-on-the-Naze: (1) Essex XXXIX.3. (ii) Eight sheets, in the environs of East Mersea, St Osyth and Clacton-on-Sea: (2) Essex XLVII.3; (3) Essex XLVII.4; (4) Essex XLVII.7; (5) Essex XLVII.8; (6) Essex XLVIII.6; (7) Essex XLVIII.7; (8) Essex XLVIII.10; (9) Essex XLVIII.11. (iii) Seven sheets, in the environs of Little Wakering, Great Wakering, North Shoebury and Shoeburyness: (10) Essex LXXIX.5; (11) Essex LXXIX.6; (12) Essex LXXIX.7; (13) Essex LXXIX.9; (14) Essex LXXIX.10; (15) Essex LXXIX.13; (16) [?a different edition of] Essex LXXIX.5. Items (7-8, 10, 13-14) uncoloured and the remainder coloured. Items (11-12) surveyed by Captain H G Pilleau, Royal Engineers, 1873, and items (1, 6-9) surveyed by him, 1874; items (2, 4) surveyed by Captain L J G Ferrier, Royal Engineers, 1874; items (3, 5) surveyed by Lieutenant G W Archer, Royal Engineers, 1874; all these items levelled by Lieutenant W Wynne, Royal Engineers; zincographed at the Ordnance Survey Office, Southampton, under the superintendence of Lieutenant Colonel Parsons, Royal Engineers; items (7-8) bear the printed inscription: 'For War Department purposes only'. Items (10, 12-16) from a revised edition: items (10, 12-15) surveyed in 1873; items (10, 14) zincographed and originally published in 1874, and re-zincographed and printed in 1888; items (12, 15) zincographed and originally published in 1875, and re-zincographed and printed in 1883; item (16) zincographed and published in 1874 [other production details missing due to damage]. Portions of the left-hand side of item (16) have perished away.
