Essex: East Tilbury. 2 sheets of plans, elevations and sections of defences for the River Thames: (1) showing windows, shutters, loopholes and casements in the rear walls of gorge buildings at Coalhouse Fort; (2) showing movable partitions and casemates [fortified chambers] for Coalhouse, Cliffe and Shornmead Forts. Reference table to colouring on item (2). Scale: (1) 1 inch to 1 foot [1:12]; (2) 1 inch to 2 feet [1:24]; certain detailed drawings on both sheets are at full size [1:1]. Both sheets drawn by Lance Corporal J E Thorpe, Royal Engineers, 5 July 1887. Signed by Colonel B H Melville, Royal Engineers, 1 August 1887.
