Ordnance Survey 1:2,500 County Series sheets Kent LXVIII.10-[11] joined to form a map of areas surrounding Dover Castle to the north, and land as far east as the South Foreland; sheet LXVIII.11 is coloured, but sheet LXVIII.10 is uncoloured. Sheet LXVIII.10 surveyed by Captain A de C Scott, 1859; levelled by Captain E N Heygate, Royal Engineers; zincographed under the superintendence of Lieutenant Colonel P Carey, Royal Engineers, 1879; a printed inscription states: For War Department purposes only'. Sheet LXVIII.11 revised by Captain HS Palmer, Royal Engineers, 1871; levelled by Captain E R James, Royal Engineers; zincographed under the superintendence of Lieutenant Colonel Parsons, Royal Engineers. Coloured MS additions show a prison on Fox Hill Down, with contour shading (in brown paint) surrounding the buildings. MS note: 'Copy of approved plan for Convict Prison. See Dover 5/3177'. Dated 27 May 1884 in MS.
