Straits Settlements. 'Map of the Town and Environs of Singapore': three similar contour maps, also showing rivers, named streets, buildings and War Department property. Scale: 1 inch to 8 chains [10 inches to 1 mile]. Compass indicators. Items (1-2) surveyed by A Annamalai, Surveyor General's Office, Singapore, 1878; hills sketched and drawn by S de Silva; the map also bears the names of Sir William Cleaver Francis Robinson, Governor of the Straits Settlements, and Major John F McNair, Colonial Engineer and Surveyor General, Straits Settlements; lithographed by [Edward] Stanford, Charing Cross. Item (3) drawn by Wajud Khan, Surveyor General's Office, Singapore, 1868; the map also bears the name of His Excellency Colonel Sir Harry St George Ord, Governor of the Straits Settlements; (signed): J Quinton, Surveyor General, Straits Settlements; lithographed by [Edward] Stanford, Charing Cross. Item (1) revised and corrected in coloured MS to 14 April 1896; item (2) bears an MS inscription stating that the map is believed to have been corrected to 1885. Dimensions between 43 cm x 73 cm and 52.5 cm x 85 cm.
