Ten outline maps showing the stand-points and angles from which War Department photographs were authorised to be taken: (1) on Melville Island; (2) at York Redoubt; (3) on Sambro Island; (4) at the North-West Arm quarries; (5) at York Redoubt; (6) at Sackville; (7) on Macnab Island; (8) in the vicinity of Wellington Barracks; (9) in the environs of the Citadel, Fort Clarence and the harbour; (10) at Mount Pleasant Park and Ives Point Battery. Items (8-10) from a single map on three sheets. Scale: (1) 1 inch to about 300 feet [1:3,600]; (2, 7-10) 1:2,500; (3) 1 inch to about 2 chains [1:1,584]; (4, 6) [not shown]; (5) 1 inch to 80 feet [1:960]. Compass indicators to items (1-3) and (5-6). Items (1, 3, 5-6, 10) signed by Colonel J W Lovell, Commanding Royal Engineer, 28 February 1879; all items signed by Major [illegible, ?Mangley], 13 March 1880. The related photographs have not been identified within the holdings of The National Archives.
