34 items: maps and plans of the Levant, with related correspondence and notes. Detailed descriptions are given at item level.
Portfolio 1 contains items numbered 1-10; portfolio 2 contains items numbered 11-34. The items have apparently been renumbered at some point (perhaps in June 1993 when they reverted from MR 161 to WO 78/1000), when the formerly unnumbered sheets of text were incorporated into a rearranged item sequence. The old item numbers are not now visible on the maps but do appear in the War Office map docket book (which was the original means of reference to the War Office maps). There are indications on some sheets that a third set of sheet numbers was in use at one time and the original order of the maps is not now clear.
