Kingdom of the Netherlands: Liège (or Luik; now in Belgium). Two maps and six sheets of drawings. (1-6) Six sections relating to items (7-8); the drawings are mounted on two backing sheets: (i) items (1-3) (ii) items (4-6). (7) 'Plan to show the remains of the Citadel at Liege and of the Works of the Town on its left'. (8) 'Plan showing the situation of the citadel of Liege as it is proposed to be constructed'. Scale: (1-3) 1 inch to 50 feet [1:600]; (4-6) 1 inch to 30 feet [1:360]; (7) 3 inches to 250 feet [1:1,000]; (8) 3 inches to 745 feet [1:2,980]. Compass star to item (8). Sheet sizes between 64 cm x 89 cm and 73 cm x 280 cm.
Originally accompanying the Report of the Committee of British Engineers on the Fortresses of the Netherlands; the report is not filed with these drawings. This piece was part of a collection of plans and drawings held by Major General Sir John Jones which, following his death in 1843, were sent to the office of the Inspector General of Fortifications; correspondence about the transfer and a list of the plans and drawings are among the papers in WO 55/959
