Kingdom of the Netherlands: Dender (or Dendre) River. '... Survey of the Valley of the Dender from Gramont [Grammont] to Dendermonde. To show the fall of that River': three maps, mounted on a single backing sheet: (1) from Dendermonde (or Termonde) southward; (2) from Aalst (or Alost) southward; (3) from Denderleeuw to Geraardsbergen (or Grammont). Pencilled reference table to item (3) listing types of land. Scale: 1 inch to about 1,135 feet. Compass indicators. Dimensions between 168 cm x 30 cm and 69 cm x 29 cm.
Originally accompanying the Report of the Committee of British Engineers on the Fortresses of the Netherlands; the report is not filed with these maps. This piece was part of a collection of plans and drawings held by Major General Sir John Jones which, following his death in 1843, were sent to the office of the Inspector General of Fortifications; correspondence about the transfer and a list of the plans and drawings are among the papers in WO 55/959
