Central Asia. 'Turkestan and the Countries between the British and Russian Dominions in Asia': map on four joined sheets, covering the area between Astrakhan in Russia, Chenguchuk in Chinese Turkistan (now Tacheng, Xinjiang Uygur region, China), Pokhara in Nepal, and Bushehr in Persia (now in Iran), showing relief, rivers and lakes, roads, railways, named settlements, the boundaries of Afghanistan, and territories controlled by Britain, China, Persia and Russia. Reference notes on authorities used in compiling the map, and on the inaccurate depiction of the boundaries. Scale: 1 inch to 32 miles. Based on surveys made by British and Russian Officers in or before 1878; compiled on the orders of Major General J Walker, Royal Engineers, Surveyor General of India and Superintendent of the Great Trigonometrical Survey, with the compilation chiefly by G W E Atkinson and the hill shading chiefly by J Peyton; photozincographed by C Dyson and C G Ollenbach at the Trigonometrical Branch, Survey of India, Dehra Dun, March 1879; fourth edition. Coloured MS additions highlight certain boundaries.
