France. Map on two joined sheets, covering the area between Honfleur, Vailly-sur-Aisne, Dornes and Neuville-de Poitou. Copied from two sheets ('Paris' and ['Bourges']) of the 'Carte de la France' (surveyed by officers of the Corps d'Etat-Major, engraved at the French War Department and published [1852]-1855). Coloured MS additions highlighting the River Seine and River Loire, and showing proposed forts in the environs of Paris, 1873. Endorsed in MS with a note stating that this copy was photozincographed [?by Ordnance Survey] in 1871. The War Office map docket book (which was the original means of reference to the War Office maps) states that a newspaper cutting from The Times, 9 September 1873, concerning defence proposals is affixed to the map; there is now no such cutting attached to or filed with the map.
