Gibraltar. 6 items. (1-4) A letter from Major General E Frome, Commanding Royal Engineer, to the War Office, dated 1 May 1866, giving details of a project for the upper defences. (5-6) Two maps, on tracing cloth, showing roads, fortifications, contours, and details of the rockface: (5) covering the environs of Raglan Battery, Genoese Battery and Prince Ferdinand Battery; (6) covering the area between Mount Misery and Windmill Hill barracks. Scale: 1 inch to 50 feet. Compass indicator to item (5). Item (5) traced by Sapper [?]Arrive, Royal Engineers. Both sheets signed by Lieutenant A B Coddington, Royal Engineers, and by Major General Frome; both signatures dated 1 May 1866. Insets: sections and elevations of fortifications; scale: 1 inch to 25 feet [1:300]. Dimensions: (1-4) each 32.5 cm x 20 cm; (5) 94 cm x 190 cm; (6) 91 cm x 235 cm.
