Four sheets of the Ordnance Survey 1:2,500 County Series joined: Hampshire LXXXVI.7-8 and [LXXXVI.11-12], together forming a map of the environs of Christchurch (now in Dorset) and territory as far inland as Iford and Burton. Surveyed by Captain G E Sansford, Royal Engineers, 1870; levelled by Captain E R James, Royal Engineers; zincographed at the Ordnance Survey Office, Southampton, under the superintendence of Captain Parsons, Royal Engineers. MS addition, in pencil, shows an exercise yard adjacent to the Artillery Barracks at Porpoise Hill. Signed by Captain [illegible], Royal Engineers, 12 October 1871; by Colonel W F Hedden, Commanding Royal Engineer, Portsmouth, 16 October 1871; by Major Stewart, Commanding Royal Engineer, Gosport, 11 April 1883; and by Lieutenant Colonel C E Webber, on behalf of the absent Commanding Royal Engineer, Southern District, April 1883.
