Reference table to symbols and abbreviations. Compass roses. Compiled, chiefly on the basis of estate maps and the government triangulation, and originally published by A Descubes, 1880; this edition engraved by Davies and Co, Craven Street, Strand, under the superintendence of Edward J Powell, chief draughtsman, and published by the Hydrographic Department of the Admiralty, 1881. Additional, MS title: 'Explanatory Route Map of Telephone Communication (Commandant's Command Lines)': coloured MS additions reflect this title. MS reference table to telephone posts and their locations; a reference note on 'Aerial Wires' has been struck through in pencil. Signed by Major General J Talbot Coke. Originally accompanying Major General Coke's letter to the Under Secretary of State for War, 6 February 1899; the letter is not filed with ths sheet.
