Mauritius. 'Plan of Grand Port and Ile of Passe & c & c': map. Scale: [1 inch to about 1,200 yards, 1:43200]. Compass indicator. Inset plan of a fortified position by Grand Channel; reference table; scale: 1 inch to about 28.5 toises [1 inch to about 102 feet]. Endorsed with a pencilled drawing of a man's face in profile. The paper bears the watermark: 'Whatman 1801'. The suggested date is taken from the War Office docket book (which was the original means of reference to the War Office maps); it is assumed to postdate British control of Mauritius, which began in 1810. Stamped at the Royal Engineers' Office, Mauritius, 14 June 1875.
