Manuscript prize appeal from the Vice Admiralty Court of St Kitts.
Captured ship: Impromptu (master Jean Caillaut or Caillavet).
History: a French merchant ship (snow, 340 tons, 27 men) bound from Bordeaux to Saint Domingue; taken in autumn 1778 by the privateer Duchess of Kingston of Guernsey (Nicholas Lauga commanding), whose prize-master and crew were later forcibly dispossessed by the privateers Mary (Robert Beatty commanding) and Resolution (John Lamont commanding), and brought by them into St Kitts.
