Eyre file, Surrey.
Refiled Bench writs ('extracta brevium') and associated material sent to the Surrey eyre of 1294.
The majority of this file was found intact on the original thong, and in return date order, running from the octave of Michaelmas 1287 to the octave of the Nativity of St John the Baptist 1289. Thirty further writs, returnable in Hilary and Michaelmas terms 1288, were discovered loose and may have originally belonged to this file.
The main part of this file was found wrapped in an extent for the manors of Goss Hall and Goldstone [in Ash], Kent, dated 21 March 1329. This has been removed and is now at SC 12/42/30.
Two further files of writs sent to this eyre, relating to the periods immediately after the writs in the present file, are at JUST 4/2/20 and JUST 4/2/21.
