Correspondence and papers of the General Department.

The files up to 1934 relate mostly to merchandise marks. The papers after 1934 concern food, agricultural marketing schemes, control over food imports and exports and overseas negotiations on food questions, and also to plans for the distribution of food in an emergency.

Also included in the series are the minutes, memoranda and reports of the Severn Tidal Power Informal Committee on the Severn Barrage Scheme, and the Board of Trade and Ministry of Health evidence to a Committee on Food Law.
