The Council for Art and Industry was appointed by the President of the Board of Trade in January 1934 as a standing body to deal with the relationship between art and industry. It made several reports and organised exhibitions before it ceased to meet on the outbreak of war. Its appointment was formally revoked at the end of 1944, when its functions were taken over by the Council of Industrial Design.
