Correspondence, Original-Secretary of State: Despatches from Governor Sir William Lamond Allardyce (1917 Oct-Dec); together with letters from various government offices (departments) and individuals, 1917, most of which relate to the despatches sent from the governor in this volume as well as CO 23/279 and CO 23/280. Despatches are described at item level; correspondence from Offices and Individuals is not. Correspondents and subjects covered are as follows: Offices (Government Departments):

  • Admiralty (lighting restrictions, labour for logging for mahogany in Nicaragua, wireless station at Nassau, marine patrol);
  • Privy Council Office (Admiralty jurisdiction of the Supreme Court, petitions for leave to appeal in forma paueris);
  • Foreign Office (Island of Salt Cay, shipment of sponges to Holland, facilities for philanthropic work);
