Description

Correspondence, Original-Secretary of State: Correspondence received from Offices (Government Departments and other organisations) and individuals on subjects concerning the Bahamas. Correspondents and subjects are as follows: Offices:

  • Crown Agents (sinking fund of the telegraph loan, contractors claim in respect of the cable, cable maintenance and repair fund, payment of pensions, claim for the detention of a cable vessel);
  • Council Office (Yelveston case and the form of reference to the Privy Council);
  • Board of Trade (appointment of acting Inspector of Lighthouses);
  • Law Officers (case of A E Moseley and the contempt of court case);
  • Treasury (papers on Yelveston case, submission of Moseley case to the Privy Council);
  • Foreign Office (Bahamas-Florida cable question regarding the condition imposed by the United States Government, message from the Governor of the Bahamas to the President of the United States of America, cable questions regarding negotiations with the United States Government and money order);
  • War Office (military lands and buildings, valuation of military lands);
  • General Post Office (alteration of the mail service);
  • Lord Mayor of London (raising of money for the purchase of a schooner for the residents of Watling's Island);
