Description

Correspondence, Original-Secretary of State: Letters from the Foreign Office on matters related to the Bahamas. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

  • territorial jurisdiction of Spain on the coast of Cuba and adjacent Cays,
  • alleged use of port of Nassau by Cuban insurgents,
  • Nassau mail bag opened by Spanish authorities in Havana,
  • attempt to prevent filibusters from using British possessions for meeting,
  • passport regulations in Cuba,
  • capture of British vessel Galvanic by Cuban authorities,
  • decree by Captain General of Havana of 24 March affecting vessels captured in Spanish waters or on the high seas with war contraband on board,
  • capture of American brig Mary Lowell by a Spanish warship within British jurisdiction,
  • alleged irregularities in Nassau in connection with Spanish steamer Comanditario,
  • proceedings of Spanish vessels in the West Indies and the Bahamas,
  • Commodore Phillimore's mission to Havana concerning the Spanish authorities proceedings in the West Indies,
