Description

Correspondence, Original-Secretary of State: Letters from the Admiralty and the Privy Council Office on matters related to the Bahamas. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

  • Admiralty (approval of Naval Protection Stores Act, insurrection at St Jago de Cuba [Santiago], stationing of a warship at Nassau to prevent breaches of the Laws of Neutrality arising from the state of affairs in Cuba, seizure of the British vessel Galvanic by Spanish authorities, protection of British interests in Cuba, various reports on the state of affairs in Cuba, capture of the American brigantine Mary Lowell, hire of the schooner Brilliant during the absence of the lighthouse tender Richmond, release of the crew of the Galvanic, case of the steamer Salvador, state of affairs at the Bahamas, arrival of the Defence at Havana, Eclipse sailing for Havana, alleged use of the Bahamas by Cuban insurgents, withdrawal of the proclamation of 24 March, proceedings of HMS Royalist and HMS Eclipse, seizure of the schooner La Hare by a Spanish cruiser, vessels arming shipping and trans-shipping arms at Inagua, detention of the ship Lilian (alias Cespedes) off Wax Cay, trade in contraband of war in the Bahamas by Cuban and Dominican insurgents);
  • Council Office (confirmation of Act No 1739 passed in October 1868, despatches from the governors of the Bahamas, Hong Kong and Canada respecting the proposed exchange of educational works published under government authority, confirmation of an Act to amend the Ecclesiastical Laws of the colony)
