Arrangement
Arrangement

From BT 1/358 onwards the date given in the list of the series refers to the date of minuting, not of writing or despatch.

The in-letters and papers of the Board of Trade each bear a letter and number by which it is referred to in the minutes in BT 5.

The minutes up to 1839 are marked with red letters and numbers against each item, which refer to the volumes and item numbers in the series. Each volume of minutes has a subject index at the end, and from 1791 to 1839 the minutes used with their indexes are the easiest means of reference.

The bound volumes of papers in this series are marked not only with their modern call numbers but with the original bundle numbers as well, running from A1 to Z1, A2 to Z2 and so on. Through each volume the papers are numbered in order in red ink. These bundle and paper numbers can be used to trace an individual paper from the Minute Books, which mark the relevant paper numbers against items of business.
